Description
Interested in learning what it takes to go directly from undergraduate to degree to graduate school? Wonder what it's like to go from professional work to graduate school? Should you wait, should go immediately? How challenging is graduate school? When should apply? What should you say in your applications? Rural or urban? So many questions. Come learn from an SIU alumna who is now working in a master's program at SIU and from an alumnus in a master's program at Columbia University in New York City.

About Danielle
Danielle Lorentz is a Carbondale native, as some would call me a “townie.” I love all things SIU and love to support the local community. I am passionate about rescue animals (I have three!), sustainability and experiencing authentic community with the people around me. I recently graduated this past May (what an adventure, all things considered) with a minor in American Sign Language and a major in Communication Studies. My studies focused on interpersonal, organization and intercultural communication. My time at SIU was so wonderful that when a mentor reached out to me with an opportunity to come back in the Fall, I could not pass it up! I am now back on campus pursing a master’s degree in Intercultural Communication and Pedagogy. I am serving as a liaison between the Associate Chancellor’s Office for Diversity and Disability Support Services on campus. In this GA role, I have the opportunity to establish a Disability Ally Center in hopes to create a space for students with disabilities on campus that fosters an environment for a collaborative community. My hope is to make spaces on campus more accessible during my time at SIU. |
